Former City Heights Teacher Sentenced to Prison for Child Porn

David Weaks, 60, taught 5th grade at Rosa Parks Elementary School.

A former City Heights grade school teacher was sentenced to nearly 6 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography.

David Weaks, 60, was arrested April 19, 2018 after federal agents served a search warrant at his Clairemont home and found child pornography on a desktop computer, two laptop computers and a hard drive.

Agents also searched Weaks' computer at Rosa Parks Elementary School where he taught 5th grade.

Six days after his arrest, a substitute teacher found four thumb drives on a shelf near Weak’s workstation. According to the application for the search warrant, that teacher took the thumb drives to her principal, who gave them to school police, who gave them in turn to federal investigators.

In their request for a warrant to inspect the contents of those thumb drives, federal agents told Federal Magistrate Nita Storms that child porn collectors often hide multiple copies of their collection in different places.

β€œEven if the collector feels threatened by exposure to law enforcement, he will usually seek to preserve his collection, by hiding it better… rather than by destroying it,” wrote Kayade Ereme, Special Agent with the Department of Homeland Security.

Weaks was sentenced to 70 months in prison. Following his prison term, he will be under supervised release for eight years.
