San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher engineered the greatest season of basketball our town has ever seen. After a 34-3 season that included the program's first NCAA Tournament wins, Fisher was awarded the Adolph Rupp Cup.

Talk about a no-brainer. The award recognizes excellence in coaching, as decided by a panel of sportswriters, coaches and athletic directors. Past winners include national champions Roy Williams and Rick Pitino, and Final 4 fixture John Calipari.

It's a nice and richly deserved honor for Fisher, and a great sign for the Aztecs. It means the rest of the country has officially put SDSU's basketball program on its radar. For that, we can thank the coach.
