Firefighters Knock Down Point Loma Blaze, Rescue Dog

San Diego Fire-Rescue crews knocked down a residential fire in Point Loma Monday.

The fire broke out around 10:59 a.m. on the 1100 block of Catalina Blvd near Sunset Cliffs.

No one was injured, but firefighters rescued one large dog from the building.

SDFD Capt. Joe Amador said the fire started in the kitchen, when a nanny cooking left food unattended. She managed to grab the child she was watching and get out safely.

The fire left $280,000 in damages.

Southbound Catalina between Borona and La Paloma was shut down as crews worked.

The fire is under investigation.
