Chula Vista Man Killed in Front of Mom's Home

Marcelo Sanchez was left in the middle of the road several feet away from his car, relatives said.

A Chula Vista man was struck and killed by a car just outside of his mother's home Monday night.

Marcelo Sanchez, 37, was returning from picking up food when he was killed, family members said.

Sanchez parked his vehicle on Hilltop Drive in front of his mother's home around 9:40 p.m. He was just exiting the car when the driver of a black pickup truck hit him and then drove away.

Sanchez was left in the middle of the road several feet away from his car, relatives said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene just after 10 p.m., Chula Vista Police said.

The driver returned to the scene, police said. Officers interviewed him at his home and impounded the pickup.

CVPD investigators said it does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the collision.

No charges have been filed against the driver at this time. The crash is still under investigation.

Sanchez was the father of two, his family said.
