Fatal Accident Leaves Cyclist Dead

Cyclist Killed in Fatal Accident Identified

The cyclist, who was killed Saturday after being struck by a truck, has been identified as 60-year-old Marberry Ben Acree of San Diego, according to the Medical Examiner's office.

The fatal accident happened near the corner of Friars Rd. and Rancho Mission Rd. yesterday just before noon.

Acree was traveling east on Friars Road when police say, for unknown reasons, he collided with a box truck as the truck exited the north bound I-15 off ramp going east on Friars Road.

The large moving truck knocked Acree down, crushing him, officers said.

"It appears at this time, that the bicyclist traveled in front of the truck violating his right-of-way and was struck by the commercial vehicle," said San Diego Police Lt. Dan Christman.

The bike lane on Friars stops at the off-ramp and a new one begins in the far right lane just past the exit, Christman said.

Emergency medical crews tried to resuscitate Acree, but he failed to respond and was pronounced dead at the seen.

An examination of the body has yet to be performed.

Police said the driver of the truck would not be cited at this point in the investigation.
