There was an extra police presence on campus at Scripps Ranch High School on Tuesday after rumors of a shooting at the school were circulated on social media.
The San Diego Unified School District Police Department worked with the San Diego Police Department on the investigation.
The threat was tracked down to an individual who is not living in California, according to SDUSD spokesperson Maureen Magee.
Magee could not comment on whether the threat was tied to a former student.
