Escondido Resident Shot in Foot Through Apartment Wall as Neighbors Fight: Police

The victim did not know the couple who was fighting next door, according to the Escondido Police Department

An Escondido resident was shot through a wall as their neighbors reportedly fought next door early Wednesday morning, according to the Escondido Police Department.

Markeith Davis, 30, was arrested after police said he inadvertently shot his neighbor in the foot in an apartment complex on East Washington Avenue at around 1:30 a.m.

Davis and the victim were each in their respective apartments at the time of the incident. EPD said the victim did not know Davis but was just “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Police said Davis and his girlfriend were fighting when Davis allegedly fired a gun. The bullet went through a wall of Davis’ apartment and entered the victim’s apartment, striking the victim in the foot.

The 30-year-old reportedly fled the scene after his neighbor was shot. EPD said they found Davis two and a half hours later walking along North Escondido Boulevard, roughly a mile from his apartment.

Davis was subsequently taken into custody without incident, though officers noted he was armed with a handgun at this time.

According to EPD, Davis was booked on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
