Continued erosion of a portion of Sunset Cliffs has undermined a protective barrier.
San Diego lifeguards noticed the post installed to keep visitors away from a crack was falling down on Monday morning.
Firefighters say they have to re-string the barrier post.
In the meantime, firefighters have asked city engineers to inspect the ongoing erosion at Sunset Cliffs in the Point Loma area. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is handling the matter.
The area affected is at Sunset Cliffs Park and not in an area with a lot of pedestrian access.
Experts believe El Nino rains are the straw that broke the camel's back, not the sole source of this crack.
