Open enrollment is underway in Chula Vista for free preschool.
The Chula Vista Elementary School District sent messages by phone to families in the area on Thursday.
The preschool program is offered at 16 South Bay elementary schools.
The school offers three hours of academic instruction for low-income families in the mornings or afternoons.
For those who do not meet income requirements, the district will help families find other preschool programs.
There are more than 800 slots open for the new school year.
