Camp Out Without the Drive

"Urban Campout" raises funds for scouting programs

Go cow chipping and spin a hula hoop, all for a good cause!  A fun fundraiser for the Girl Scouts of America promises to take San Diegans on a whirlwind tour of America, to help raise money for the organization.

The America-themed event is called “Urban Campout.”  Folks who attend the fundraiser can play grownup games from around the country, such as saddling up for Paul Revere’s wild ride, cow chipping, hula hooping and strolling the famous Walk of Stars.

“Urban Campout” is Friday, September 11th from 6:00 to 10:30 p.m. at the Girl Scout Headquarters in Balboa Park.

The proceeds fund hundreds of programs that help develop girls' life and leadership skills.  For instance, Camperships send girls to day and resident camps where they explore the great outdoors, arts, athletics, technology and so much more. And the Girl Scout Outreach Program brings Girl Scouting to girls in homeless shelters, detention facilities and neighborhoods with financial and language barriers.

The event auction includes everything from a paid internship at Qualcomm to box seats at the Kentucky Derby and a week stay in Hawaii.
