Worker Crushed at Construction Site Identified

Eduardo Lopez, 29, was killed on the job on May 20, 2014

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office has released the name of a man fatally crushed by falling rebar in an accident at a construction site near the San Diego International Airport last week.

According to the medical examiner’s report, the victim of the accident was Eduardo Lopez, 29.

On May 20, Lopez was working his construction job at a site on North Harbor Drive near the airport. At one point, the rebar he was working with collapsed on top of him. People nearby heard Lopez yelling, but he was soon crushed by the falling material.

Co-workers rushed to help him and called 911. Emergency crews performed CPR and attempted to revive Lopez, but it was too late. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the accident, an Airport Authority spokesperson said Lopez worked for Austin/Sundt Joint Venture. The companies are developing a new, $223 million consolidated rental car center at the airport.
