Californians denied health insurance because of pre-existing conditions might have some hope.
Two new bills headed to the state senate would create a special type of insurance policy for this special group, allowing the state of California to collect up to $761 million in federal funds.
The bills already passed the assembly, but supporters expect the bill to face some opposition from Republicans when the senate votes on Monday.
If approved the bills, would enact a key component of federal health care reform four years early.
Starting in 2014, insurance companies will no longer be able to deny health coverage anyone with a pre-existing condition.
