Driver Pulled From Rollover Crash at SR-163 and I-5

A two-car rollover crash on a transition ramp between southbound state Route 163 and Interstate 5 trapped a driver and prompted a Sig Alert on Wednesday.

The two cars crashed on the ramp from southbound state Route 163 to southbound Interstate 5 just before 5:30 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol.

One car rolled over and landed on its side, trapping the driver inside.

Crews with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department were able to get the driver out within 20 minutes of the crash and he was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital with injuries.

Both lanes of the transition ramp were blocked by the crash and, at 6 a.m., a Sig Alert was issued for the transition ramps from southbound SR-163 to both northbound and southbound I-5.

During the closure, traffic was diverted from the ramps and drivers were forced to stay on southbound SR-163.

The closure was lifted at about 6:45 a.m.
