Driver Killed After Slamming Into Tree

The fatal collision happened in Point Loma

A woman is dead after a fatal single-vehicle collision in Point Loma Thursday night.

Police said a female in her late teens or early 20s was driving a VW Passatt on the 3300 block of Canon Street around 9 p.m. when she veered onto the wrong side of the road. She then drove onto a sidewalk and into the front yard of a house before slamming into a palm tree.

Authorities said the woman was initially trapped inside the car. Fire rescue officials were able to extricate the victim from the vehicle but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A medical examiner later identified the victim as 24-year-old Taylor Alexandra Vasquez. Vasquez lived with her family in San Diego.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries were reported, police confirmed.

Police temporarily blocked off Canon Street as they investigated the scene and cause of the accident.
