Driver Arrested After Colliding With Other Vehicle in Suspected DUI in Chula Vista

Police arrested a suspected drunk driver after he collided with another vehicle in Chula Vista and was hospitalized for his injuries Monday, California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed.

A 20-year-old man from Chula Vista was speeding rapidly on southbound Interstate 805, when he approached a car driven by a 50-year-old man from San Diego. The man suspected of driving under the influence struck the other car from behind, colliding with the rear end of the vehicle, said CHP officers.

The crash caused each car to roll off the road, with both coming to a stop in the brush off the I-805, just south of Telegraph Canyon Road around 12:30 a.m.

The suspected drunk driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the UCSD Medical Center, according to CHP. The victim complained of pain to his shoulder and was also taken to UCSD Medical Center, but was later released.

At the hospital, the driver suspected of DUI was placed under arrest.

Neither driver had any passengers in their vehicles, but both cars were majorly damaged by the crash.

According to CHP, the eastbound Telegraph Canyon Road on-ramp to I-805 south was closed for about an hour, while crews moved the crushed vehicles from the brush area.
