Dog Dies in Vista Mobile Home Fire

Imagine losing nearly everything you hold dear to you in one night.

A Vista man watched as the home he had just remodeled for his family was destroyed by a fire that also took the life of his dog.

Homeowner Eric Martinez was asleep when heard an explosion just before 3 a.m.

Fire broke out inside the Mobile Home Terrace on N Santa Fe Avenue in Vista.

He found flames coming from the front left corner of his home and asked his neighbors to call 911.

Vista firefighters fought to keep the flames from spreading to the home next door.

The cause is under investigation.

Martinez said the fire may have started in his front yard where his best friend, Taz, was attached to his chain.

"He was chained up so the flames were around him so I couldn’t do anything about it," Martinez said.

Fire investigators said a second home sustained some damage because the properties are so close in proximity and share a backyard.

One mobile home park resident told NBC 7 she felt frightened since the homes are so close together and can burn down easily.
