The 5.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in San Diego County

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake rattled San Diego County Friday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake hit at 9.47 a.m., 17 miles south of Guadalupe Victoria in Baja California, Mexico. That's about 118 miles southeast of Tijuana.

Local residents immediately started reacting to the quake on social media.

"O my gosh I totally felt it in Eastlake," wrote Eve Harrison.

"Felt it in Lakeside," wrote Amber Freeman.

"Southpark... yes i felt it. Kinda of a strong 'vibration'," wrote Deric Stowell.

"Felt it in Chula Vista/Otay Mesa," wrote Troy Johnson.

"Felt it, Rancho Penasquitos, shook the bed," wrote Jonathan Romosod.

"Felt it in my building downtown," wrote Courtland Mattson.

"Yes, in La Jolla/UCSD," wrote Felipe Eddie Zatarain.

"Felt it in Pine Valley," wrote Debbie Bosang Tice.

There are no reports of injuries or damage.

The area where the quake hit in Mexico is sparsely populated, said Seismologist John Bellini.
