The sheriff's homicide unit is investigating a brutal killing in East County.
Detectives said they got a call about a body in an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Conrad Drive in the Casa de Oro community in East County at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The body belongs to a 32-year-old sailor, officials said.
The man had not reported for duty in two days, according to investigators, who said they were notified about the situation after another sailor went to the apartment complex to check on him and found the body.
Detectives said there is significant trauma to the body. They are waiting for a warrant before moving the body.
