Deputy Goes Down for Dognapping

A San Diego County corrections deputy has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for stealing her neighbor's dog.

Riverside County court records show Diane Brown pleaded guilty at a court hearing Wednesday and was given credit for one day already served. She also was placed on three years of probation and ordered to pay a $454 fine.

Authorities were led to Brown after witnesses saw a woman take a Maltese out of her trunk in Beaumont and leave it in front of an office building. The incident was captured on surveillance cameras.

The witnesses picked up the dog and took it to a veterinarian, who scanned the dog's microchip and called its owner.

Officials have said Brown took the dog because she was tired of hearing it bark.
