1 Dead, 3 Hurt in Crash on I-805 in North Park

One man died and three people were injured Monday in a crash on southbound Interstate 805 in North Park.

The crash happened near the El Cajon Boulevard off-ramp just before 1 a.m. when a white 2014 Kia crashed with a box truck, causing the sedan to slam into the center divide and the box truck to overturn, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles, according to the CHP, and then the Kia driver was struck by a third vehicle. Medics pronounced the Kia driver dead at the scene. He was identified as a 31-year-old man.

The driver of the box truck and two people inside the third vehicle, a 2016 Mercedes Benz, were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment. The CHP officer investigating the crash described their injuries as minor.

Crews worked through the morning to clear debris from three lanes of southbound I-805. By about 7 a.m., lanes were reopened to traffic.
