Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts Join Law Enforcement for Police Appreciation Day

Law enforcement officers got some love and support from local cub scouts and boy scouts on Police Appreciation Day Monday morning in El Cajon.

Nearly 100 boy scouts and cub scouts lined the sidewalk on the 2300 block of Fletcher Parkway near Navajo, waving flags and saluting law enforcement.

Officers from El Cajon, La Mesa police departments, the California Highway Patrol and deputies from the Santee Sheriff’s substation participated in the event, passing out sticker badges to honorary junior deputies.

Deputy Joe Passalacqua told NBC 7 that the show of support and appreciation from the cub scouts was something they needed to hear.

He says law enforcement officers usually don't have a chance to talk to kids face-to-face. But it's events such as these that bring them together with the communities they serve.

β€œThis is kind of two fold. We remember it as just as much as they will,” Passalacqua said, speaking of the cub scouts.

He says one day, these kids will tell their own children about their experience with law enforcement officers and help bridge the gap between adults and kids.

The scouts also offered free coffee and treats for the officers and deputies who stopped by at the event.
