Couple Dead, Motorcycle Missing

A married couple was found dead inside their Bay Park home and their motorcycle may be missing.

Officers went to the home to check the welfare of the couple at 3217 Geronimo Avenue around 2 p.m. Thursday. A relative living in Nevada called police after several phone calls to the woman living at that address went unanswered.

Investigators say officers found the couple during a welfare check on Thursday afternoon.  "When they got to the master bedroom, they found Carol Sandberg and her husband Barry deceased in that bedroom,"said Lt. Terry McManus.

When officers went inside the home, they found a man and a woman dead inside. The condition of the scene and the victims is being described as suspicious, however the cause and the manner of death is pending the results of an autopsy, according to a police media release.

But they did say a black Harley Davidson, belonging to the husband, was missing from the garage.  "We'd be interested in locating that motorcycle and hopefully speaking with the person who knows the whereabouts of that bike,"McManus said. It’s a black 1991 Harley Davidson β€œsoft tail” with California license plate HARLYD.

Neighbors say the Sandbergs have been married for nearly 40 years and described them as a nice couple.  Others say Barry wasn't always friendly to everyone.  "Barry had a hard time getting along with people, he really did,"said long time neighbor LuVerne Vlachos.  "And I liked him because I'd known him all his life, but I know he had a hard time with people."

According to court documents, Barry Sandberg had a history of drug abuse including cocaine, marijuana and speed.  He was a convicted felon who broke into a home last July and attacked a 17 year old boy who suffers from autism.  He had also been sued by several people in the past 35 years.
