Coachella Brings the Heat to San Diego

Coachella bands playing San Diego this month

You’ve all seen the Coachella 2017 lineup by now (if you haven’t, check it out here), but buying tickets for it? That’s another story. With tickets ranging from $399 to $899, it was a feat just to scrounge up the cash, but now that both weekends (April 14-16 and April 21-23) are sold out, it’s gonna take a miracle to get there.

Sure, you could count on winning some tickets from a local radio station, as SoundDiego contributor Rosemary Bystrak suggests. Alternatively, you could try your hand at the lottery and pick some up on Craigslist for God knows how much. Or, you could skip the heat, dust, crowds, walking Urban Outfitters billboards, body odor and frat guys and just see all of your favorite Coachella bands here in San Diego. Ya know, a sort of Localchella, as Bystrak calls it.

From April 9 to April 20, some of San Diego’s best and biggest venues host some of Coachella’s best and biggest bands. At Soma, the Head and the Heart kick everything off, while Father John Misty brings his sardonic wit to Humphreys on April 12. Local Natives bring the rhythm to Observatory North Park on April 17, and, sorry guys, but Kaleo have already sold out the Belly Up on April 19.

The day after is what I’m really looking forward to though. No, no, no, not because of that, but because on April 20, Twin Peaks and Hinds play the Irenic and Chicano Batman play the Music Box.

So, don’t break the bank just to sweat it out in the desert. Check out the full Localchella lineup below, then chill at home -- that's what I'm gonna do.
