Church Facilities Manager Offering $6K to Catch San Carlos Killer

Roy Heringer hopes this money is enough to prompt someone to give a tip leading to an arrest in the case

The facilities manager for a San Carlos church is offering up $6,000 of his own money to help find the person who shot and killed a 23-year-old in front of his home in San Carlos Saturday.

Roy Herigner, the facilities manager at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, hopes the money is enough to prompt someone to give a tip that may lead to an arrest.

“This young man perished across the street from the church that he attended,” Heringer said. “And that's just a travesty. In front of his own home - where his parents and brothers were sleeping. That's horrible.”

Heringer has been working at the church for three years, but he is also a retired San Diego Sheriff’s captain.

Back in 1995, his own brother, John, was gunned down in Sacramento. Police never found the people responsible.

Heringer said finding this man’s killer would bring him a sense of closure.

“That's a small price to pay. That's a very small price to pay,” he said. “If $6,000 brings to justice for this family, then it's well worth the cost.”
