Chula Vista Police Investigate Snapchat Threat to Eastlake High School

A Snapchat message posted Wednesday that implied violence at Eastlake High School is not a threat to student safety, Chula Vista police said Thursday.

Police told NBC 7 they have identified the person who posted the Snapchat and spoke with the person, identified by police as a student.

Investigators said the student told them he posted the image and caption as a joke.

At this time, there is no threat to the school, police said.

They have not launched a criminal investigation at this point.

The following email was sent Wednesday to parents of students:

"This evening we were made aware of a threat to Eastlake High via social media. The threat was identified immediately and Chula Vista Police is currently investigating and has made contact with the source of the threat. The threat has been determined to be non-credible and school will continue as planned. CVPD will increase presence on campus as a precaution. Eastlake High School thanks you for your continued support in student/staff safety."
