Woman Heading Home From Concert Killed in Chula Vista DUI Crash

The two women in the car had attended the Dixie Chicks concert at Sleep Train Amphitheatre prior to the deadly collision, the Chula Vista Police Department said

A woman heading home from a concert Friday night was killed when her friend – suspected of drinking and driving – plowed her car into a concrete block in Chula Vista, causing the vehicle to roll over.

The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) said the suspected DUI crash happened just before midnight in the 4000 block of Main Street, after the victim and her friend left the Dixie Chicks concert at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre.

According to investigators, the driver – who admitted to drinking alcohol prior to getting behind the wheel – was traveling westbound on Main Street when she lost control of her car and drove onto the area surrounding a home, striking a concrete block. This caused the car to roll over.

The CVPD said the passenger in the vehicle, now identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's (ME) office as Kendra Carperter, 39, suffered a fatal head injury in the crash. She died at the scene, police confirmed.

The DUI suspect suffered minor injuries but survived. She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and soon released. The CVPD said she was arrested for various DUI-related charges. Her name was not immediately released.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on this deadly crash can call the CVPD at (619) 691-5151 or (619) 476-5374.
