CHP Motorcycle Officer Struck By Cadillac on I-15 in Escondido

A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was struck by a car on Interstate 15 in Escondido Wednesday while crossing lanes to help a driver in a stalled vehicle.

The stalled vehicle was stopped on the shoulder of southbound I-15, near the end of the on-ramp from Via Rancho Parkway.

The CHP officer put on his emergency lights and made his way to the vehicle and at that moment, he was struck by a 2005 Cadillac STS being driven by a man from Poway.

Both the Escondido Police and Escondido Fire departments responded and treated the CHP officer's injuries, which were considered minor, at the scene, CHP said.

The officer, who was not identified, was transported to Pomerado Hospital for evaluation.

Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash and the driver of the Cadillac was not arrested or injured, CHP said.

The on-ramp was closed for more than an hour as CHP investigated the crash.
