St. Patrick's Day ended abruptly for two women, after their truck plunged into a Carlsbad lagoon.
22-year-old Alicia Biggs was the driver of a Toyota pickup that was heading North on Interstate-5 around 2 a.m. Tuesday night, when she started swerving through all the lanes, CHP Officials said. The truck crashed through the side divider and into a lagoon near Tamarack Avenue.
According to CHP Sgt. Matt Boothe, the driver was able to free herself and swim to shore.
The other passenger was found unconscious, floating face down in the water. Carlsbad police were the first on scene and started giving the woman CPR in the water. The 27-year-old passenger, Amy Lopez, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time.
The driver was also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. She will be charged with felony DUI.
