A former U.S. Marine from Carlsbad is the world planking champion no more.
A Chinese SWAT officer surpassed George Hood’s international record set last May. At that time, the former Marine officer and retired Drug Enforcement Administration agent made the Guinness World Record at 5 hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds.
The new record of 8 hours, 1 minute and 1 second was set by Mao Weidong during the Extreme Fitness Competition in Beijing on Saturday.
Weidong competed against 7 other men, including Hood, and prevailed in staying in the abdominal plank position the longest.
Coincidentally, Hood actually beat his old record by an hour and 45 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to beat Weidong.
Hood holds seven world records and has set the six Guinness World Records.
