Chargers Receiver Travis Benjamin Dives Into Training Camp

Benjamin and His Wife Held Two Wedding Ceremonies a Week Before Camp

As the Chargers continue to get into the swing of training camp, new Bolts wide receiver Travis Benjamin is ready to dive right into his new team. “Everything is football” says Benjamin. “Coming to the camp, the only focus is football. Watching film, in meetings and on the field just working to get better.”

The 26 year old out of Miami, FL has been busy this off season. Not only did he move across the country, he also planned not one, but TWO weddings just a week before training camp. “We had a traditional American wedding, and my wife is from Eritrean, so we had an African wedding on that Sunday. Everything turned out to be good it was a great experience for everyone.”

Two weddings in two days is no easy feat, especially when your guest list has 500 friends and family.

As Benjamin settles into married life, he’s also building his Chargers family out on the field with his new teammates saying, “Knowing that all my career in Cleveland I never played with an elite quarterback like that, so just coming out here and being out here with Keenan [Allen] and Stevie [Johnson] and Dontrelle [Inman], they like brothers to me. They treat me like family since the first day I been here.”

The explosive receiver joined the Chargers in March after a solid season with the Cleveland Browns. In 2015 Benjamin notched 68 catches, 966 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 15 starts. He says he’s ready to take his career to the next level and is thankful to play with one of the best in the league. “I wake every morning knowing that I got Phil [Rivers] as my quarterback” said Benjamin. “It’s a great feeling walking out on this field knowing 17 is going to throw the ball to me.”

The Chargers players will practice with pads on for the first time on Monday. Their first preseason game is August 13th against the Tennessee Titans.
