WATCH: Chargers Liuget Breaks Down Bosa

Veteran lineman offers a scouting report on his rookie teammate

When a NFL team adds new players via the Draft there is always great curiosity from the fan base that wants to know what the new guys are all about. That curiosity extends in to the locker room, as well. Established players can be a tad leery of fresh personalities and how they mesh with the dynamic already in place, especially when the youngsters play the same position they do.

When the Chargers selected defensive end Joey Bosa with the third overall pick at least one guy who’s already logged plenty of time on the D-Line was fairly ecstatic about it.

“The guy plays football,” says fellow defensive end Corey Liuget. “You want a guy who plays football and as long as he comes in ready to play I think it’ll be great. He can fit in to any system.”

Liuget was referring to concerns that Bosa would have trouble converting to playing end in a 3-4 scheme since he is a little undersized for the position (although how a 6-foot-5, 270 pound man can be considered undersized for anything other than the role of Skip Loader I don’t know) and played in a 4-man front at Ohio St. However, Liuget has other reasons to like the addition of Bosa.

“It’s gonna be fun to have another Big 10 guy,” said Liuget, who played collegiately at Illinois but won’t hold that against the rookie. “I mean Ohio St. always kicked our butt at Illinois and he’s going to be able to talk trash about that but we’re going to definitely get some work in and have some fun this season.”

The Chargers were in dire need of getting a pass rusher to help out Liuget, who has been productive despite receiving constant attention from opposing offensive coordinators, from the other side of the line. Kendall Reyes never developed in to the kind of impact player his talent level would suggest. If the tape is accurate, that will not be the case with Bosa.

“He’s a relentless kind of player, from what I can watch on his film,” said Liuget. “He has a motor. The guy, it’s like he doesn’t stop. He doesn’t get tired. That’s the kind of player I want next to me, a guy that’s going to give you everything he has.”
