The city of San Diego and SDG&E are teaming up to celebrate the life of local botanist and horticulturalist, Kate Sessions. She was born November 8th, 1857. She has played a major role in San Diego county, managing a number of nurseries spread across the county.
San Diego City Councilwoman Jennifer Campbell and SDG&E President
Scott Drury will be hosting the event today at Kate Session Park on Soledad Road. To honor the so-called ``Mother of Balboa Park,'' THERE WILL BE a tree planting and a sapling giveaway.
Sessions died March 24, 1940, and as a tribute to her legacy, the city erected a bronze statue of her in Balboa Park in 1998.
The birthday celebration goes from 10 a.m. to noon.
