Cars Burn, Line of Fire Leads to Alley

Several apartments were threatened in a car fire in University Heights

The Metro Arson Strike Team is investigating an overnight fire in University Heights that threatened several apartments.

Firefighters arrived at an apartment complex on Cleveland Avenue at around midnight to find two cars on fire in an underground garage.

Neighbors believe the fires were internationally set. A Honda and a Toyota were severely damaged.

A neighbor, who is friends with the owners, said that when firefighters arrived, there was a line of fire on the ground leading into the alley, indicating that gasoline had been used.

Eight apartments were briefly threatened by the fire. Firefighters were able to put out the fire in a few minutes.

"There were two residents upstairs, two were gone on vacations luckily, but they were alerted by neighbors to evacuate the building before we got here," said Capt. Craig Newell.

No one was injured.

The Metro Arson Strike Team is investigating.
