SDPD Searches for Carjacking Suspect in Lemon Grove

One person was arrested following a carjacking in Hillcrest that ended in a collision in Lemon Grove.

A gray Mazda that was stolen from a 4th Avenue parking lot in Hillcrest just before 7 a.m. was spotted in Lemon Grove at about 10:30 a.m., the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said.

The driver of the stolen Mazda at some point crashed the car and took off running, SDPD said.

The 75-year-old woman who was carjacked in Hillcrest was not hurt when the suspect showed his gun and demanded her purse.

A search for the suspect continued Friday afternoon in the area near the 8000 block of Lemon Grove Avenue.

Police say they believe the suspect hid in one of the apartments in the area.

Deputies searching the area based on a suspect description stopped a man, used a stun gun and took the man into custody on other charges, SDPD Sgt. Robert Hawkins said. It's not known if the person in custody is the suspect in the carjacking and crash.
