Car Owner Dodges Bullets in Pursuit of Would-Be Thieves

A San Diego man who found two people breaking into his car decided to chase after them and dodged several bullets when the suspects opened fire, police said.

The man heard something outside his home on Wenrich Drive near College Avenue around 2:50 a.m. Thursday.

He saw two men ransacking his Cadillac and yelled at them, police said.

The men jumped into a silver sedan and drove off.

It was at that point that the car owner decided to get into his car and pursue the would-be thieves. The chase began on College Avenue north of Interstate 8 and south of Navajo Road.

On Del Cerro Boulevard, the suspects fired a round of shots, police said.

The car owner was not injured and so the pursuit continued.

The second round of shots was fired nearly four miles away at Friars and Santos Road, police said.

The car owner was not injured and his car was not damaged.

Police was on the scene of a Vons parking lot off Zion and Mission Gorge Road where they were gathering evidence and information in the investigation.

The suspects were still being sought as of 7 a.m.
