Car Fire Spreads to Nearby Brush on I-15 in Rancho Bernardo

A van caught fire and started a small brush fire in Ranch Bernardo, closing two lanes of traffic.

A van traveling northbound on Interstate 15 caught fire Monday afternoon and blocked two lanes of traffic, according to Cal Trans.

The San Diego Fire Department said the vehicle fire was first reported at 12:22 p.m. just south of West Bernardo Drive in Rancho Bernardo.

Flames from the van spread to a nearby hill and started a small brush fire.

SDFD members at the scene asked for extra resources to surround the hot spots.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames within an hour of the initial fire.

Caltrans San Diego tweeted at 1:35 p.m. saying β€œall lanes open on NB I-15 south of West Bernardo Dr.”

The driver of the car was not injured.
