Firefighters Quickly Knock Down Brush Fire Burning Near Vista Homes

A brush fire broke out early Monday in a canyon in Vista but firefighters made quick work to knock down the fire before it could spread to nearby residences.

The fire sparked just after 5 a.m. near Breeze Hill Road and La Tortuga Drive, near the Vista Community Clinic and San Diego Superior Court North County, the San Diego Sheriff's Department (SDSO) said.

SDSO said they may need to start evacuating homes south of the fire if it continued to spread but firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 20 minutes.

Crews remained on scene to monitor any hot spots.
