Brush Fire Prompts Evacuations

Firefighters were called out to battle a blaze in the Skyline neighborhood of San Diego on Thursday afternoon.

The 1-acre fire started shortly before noon in a canyon near the intersection of Lausanne Drive and Gribble Street. Firefighting aircraft were sent to help ground crews fight the fire, and evacuations of nearby homes were ordered because flames threatened nearby structures.

Firefighters made quick work of the blaze, though, and by 12:15 p.m., other crews headed to the scene were called off, and the emergency responders at the scene were mopping up, putting out remaining hot spots.
