The Escondido Fire Department was able to quickly contain a brush fire Saturday along northbound Interstate 15, just north of State-Route 78.
The fire burned up to two acres in a grassy area between the two freeways, Escondido Fire Department officials said.
A SigAlert was issued at 1:12 p.m. as the two right lanes of northbound I-15 were blocked. The SigAlert remained in effect until the fire crews were able to put out the blaze and mop up hot spots.
Caltrans had to close SR-78 westbound connectors to both northbound and southbound I-15 while crews were mopping up.
UPDATE: The WB SR-78 connectors to both NB and SB I-15 are now closed, and the right lane of NB I-15 north of SR-78 remains closed due to a brush fire. #SDCaltransAlert
