Crews Repair Broken Water Pipe in Southcrest

Utility officials say this is the eighth water main break they've responded to this year

A broken water pipe is affecting service to some residences and businesses in the Southcrest area of San Diego, City of San Diego officials said.

The pipe burst around 1 a.m. Thursday near the corner of National Avenue and South 35th Street.

About 20 water customers were without service during the repairs.

The foreman says they got pretty lucky because most of the shops don't need water to operate.

Utility officials say this is the eighth water main break they've responded to so far this year.

The pipe was installed in 1987 and just eroded overtime, according to a spokesperson for the city.

Water service was restored by 1:30 p.m.
