Major Santee Intersection Flooded, Partially Closed Due to Water Main Break

Mission Gorge Road between Fanita Parkway and the State Route 125 offramp was down to one lane

A major road in Santee was expected to be shut down for at least 24 hours due to a burst water main that flooded an intersection Tuesday night.

The main broke at the intersection of Mission Gorge Road and Fanita Drive, prompting the closure of a busy Santee road, according to the San Diego County Sherriff's Department (SDSO).

Mission Gorge Road was initially closed in both directions between Fanita Parkway and the State Route 125 offramp but one lane was reopened overnight Wednesday.

The thoroughfare was expected to be down to one lane in both directions for about 24 to 48 hours, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The same 16-inch pipe broke last October, officials said.

The pipe carries recycled water that is used for irrigation and no residents nearby are without clean water.

Crews from the Padre Dam Water Department assessed the damage Tuesday night. Repairs on the pipe are expected to last several days.
