Botched Robbery Turns Deadly

One person was shot and killed during a robbery gone bad Friday in University Heights, police said.

The shooting happened at a business on the 2400 block of El Cajon Boulevard, near Texas Street just after 9 a.m. 

According to San Diego police, two suspects walked into the Old Coin Shop intending to rob it.  Someone inside the business pulled out a gun and opened fire, shooting one of the suspects, police said.

Eric Diaz was having breakfast across the street when he saw the commotion.  He went outside and saw the man lying face down on the pavement.  He saw another man running to a nearby alley.

The wounded suspect was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital but later died, police said.  The second suspect remains at large.
