BP: Narcotics Seized from Smart Car Driver in Oceanside

Border Patrol busts a not-so-smart car driver and his passenger for transporting illegal drugs

San Clemente Border Patrol seized 75 bundles of methamphetamine from a 25-year-old man’s smart car on Wednesday.

Around 8:45 p.m. agents pulled over the man and his 60-year-old female passenger in a 2008 Mercedes Smart car, off Interstate 5 near San Clemente, according to Border Patrol.

The two indicated they were on their way to La Puente, according to a statement.

After a positive K-9 sniff search, agents found the packages of methamphetamine and two other packages of an unknown substance inside the vehicle’s cargo area.

The two packages were sent to a laboratory to be identified, while the methamphetamine weighed 75.51 pounds and has an estimated street value of $256,734.

The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, along with the man and his passenger after they were arrested for narcotics smuggling, according to a Border Patrol statement.

The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
