Body of Man Found in Ocotillo Wells Identified

Lizarraga texted his wife Wednesday that his truck was stuck in the sand and he was going to get help. After not hearing from him, she filed a Missing Perons Report with Indio Police and the State Parks Department

The body of a 31-year-old man found in Ocotillo Wells State Park last Friday has been identified.

Manuel Lizarraga was reported missing and possibly stuck in the sand Thursday afternoon.

Lizarraga texted his wife Wednesday that his truck was stuck in the sand and he was going to get help. After not hearing from him, she filed a Missing Perons Report with Indio Police and the State Parks Department.

Rangers and San Diego County Sheriff's Department (SDSO) deputies searched the area by land and air until dark but could not find the man.

Rangers resumed their search Friday morning and found the man's car in an embankment in a remote area of the park, the SDSO said.

Lizarraga’s body was found about four miles from his car near a bathroom stall.

The cause of death is under investigation.

Mizaragga went missing during an excessive heat warning where desert temperatures reached over 100 degrees.
