Outrage After Superintendent Placed on Leave

Education activists and school board officials are gearing up to protest after a deputy superintendent representing a southeast San Diego area was put on administrative leave.

Shelia Jackson, the boardmember who represents Area 1, released a statement saying Deputy Superintendent Brenda Campbell was placed on leave to investigate allegations.

School officials could not say why Campbell was put on leave because it is a personnel issue.

Jackson is calling for the community to protest the move. She released a statement Monday calling for action, saying the leave will affect schools in her area that are making preparations for the opening of school.

The retired administrator recruited to temporarily oversee Area 1 has limited knowledge about the schools, Jackson stated.

A huge crowd is expected at the next board meeting on September 4 to protest the move.

"For each year that a student receives ineffective instruction, it takes three years of quality instruction to catch up," Jackson said in the statement. "Our children do not have that kind of time."
