Bike Sharing Coming to San Diego

Decobike, LLC agreed to a partnership with the city for 10 years

Bike sharing stations seen in cities across the U.S. are now coming to San Diego.

The San Diego City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday for a 10-year partnership with Decobike, LLC for the operation of a self-service bike sharing system.

Decobike will also finance, manage and implement the $7.2 million program. They will look similar to the popular programs in New York and Washington, D.C.

The plan is to have up to 2,200 bikes, 220 stations and nearly 4,000 bike docks throughout San Diego.

Decobike will soon begin the process of designing the network and gathering input from local residents, according to the city.

The bike sharing system is expected to be completed next year between January and March.
