Bicyclist Hit and Injured in City Heights

A man was injured after being hit by a car on his bicycle in City Hights Monday night, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD).

The incident happened around 8:49 p.m. on 47th Street and University Avenue.

SDPD said the bicyclist, a 27-year old man, had been riding southbound on 47th Street and was hit by a car driving eastbound on University Avenue.

Lt. Steve Behrendt with SPDD told NBC 7 that the man did not have lights on his bicycle and he had failed to stop at a stop sign. The car crashed into his bicycle after he began to cross University Avenue.

Behrendt says the man was thrown from his bike, over the vehicle.

He suffered a broken femur along with bumps and bruises but is expected to be okay.

Police say the driver of the vehicle, a woman, did stay on the scene. At this point, drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the collision.

The bicyclist was transported to a Scripps Mercy Hospital for his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

No other information was immediately available.
