1 Arrested in 4-Hour Bay Park SWAT Standoff

Suspect Anthony Hernandez, claiming to be armed, holed up inside a home on Galveston Street for about four hours before surrendering to authorities early Saturday

A domestic violence suspect claiming to be armed with a gun and allegedly threatening to shoot police was arrested in Bay Park after a 4-hour standoff overnight, authorities said.

Just after midnight Saturday, San Diego Police Department (SDPD) officers went to a home along the 2300 block of Galveston Street to investigate a report of a man holding a gun.

When officers tried to make contact with the man – now identified as Anthony Hernandez, he refused to come outside. Hernandez said he had a gun.

Police said he made verbal threats to shoot officers and hurt himself.

SWAT officials were called to the scene and, with the suspect holed up inside the home, a standoff ensued. Police said Hernandez refused to come out for about four hours.

Eventually, he surrendered. No one was harmed during the incident.

Investigators said Hernandez is accused of physically assaulting his live-in girlfriend. He was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.
