Barking dogs have become such pests in Oceanside that city officials are scrambling to figure out how to handle them, reports the North County Times.

Right now, they don't get much attention because the city doesn't have the money or staff to deal with them, City Manager Peter Weiss said Thursday.

But Mayor Jim Wood, a dog owner, said he's fed up.

Barking dogs might not be a big deal to city workers fielding complaints from sleepless residents, but Wood said it's a big deal to people who have to go to work after listening to a night of dog howls.
