“GREETINGS” is likely what you’ll see on Saturday, July 1, as the Liberty Station Concert Series kicks off with the B-Side Players and Sol Y Mar on the North Promenade (2848 Dewey Road) between Stone Brewing World Bistro and Garden and the instantly recognizable Naval Training Station mural.
The folks at Liberty Station have teamed up with Beer, Food & Music, Belly Up production manager Damian DeRobbio’s new venture, to bring the month-long, all ages concert series to Point Loma’s Arts District this summer.
Kick-off headliner the B-Side Players incorporate the sounds of the Caribbean and Latin America with funk, rock and jazz. Having played with everyone from Ben Harper to the Wailers, Toots & the Maytals to James Brown and War, they’ve rightfully earned their 10 San Diego Music Awards.
“It’s definitely gonna be a good time, because it’s our hometown and all of our families will be there. We’re pretty hyped right now because we have our new record coming out, and we don’t really play San Diego that much. We do like 180 shows a year and three at home, and this is the first June or July we’ve taken off in 15 years,” Karlos Paez told SoundDiego over the phone earlier today.
All three Saturday concerts -- July 1, July 15, July 29 -- start at 5 p.m., but don’t be afraid to get there early to picnic and stroll through all of the art galleries and museums that Liberty Station has to offer.
